BFSU holds 2025 Asian & African Cultural Gala

The 2025 Asian & African Cultural Gala, themed “Voices of the Tide”, was hosted by the School of Asian Studies and the School of African Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) on May 14. This vibrant event celebrated the tide of youth advancement, civilizational exchange and echoes of the times.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Ding Hao, a member of the standing committee of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university; Bunyad Huseynov, Azerbaijani ambassador to China; Vahe Gevorgyan, Armenian ambassador to China; and Saw Sandy Zaw, minister counselor and chargé d'affaires at the embassy of Myanmar to China.

Additionally, diplomats from various Asian and African embassies in China; representatives from the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, the China-Africa Business Council and other partner institutions; as well as alumni, faculty and students of the two schools participated in the event.

In his opening remarks, Ding highlighted the important role of the two schools in cultivating language talent for the country. He also encouraged students to bridge cultures through language, tell global stories through art and illuminate the future with mutual understanding.

Faculty and students from more than 30 language programs presented a vibrant array of performances, including songs, dances, skits, poetry recitations and fashion shows, showcasing the cultural richness of countries such as Malaysia, Azerbaijan and Cambodia.

A highlight of the gala was a stunning ethnic costume showcase. Students took to the stage in distinctive national attire from Asian and African countries, as well as exquisite garments representing various dynasties of China. The enthusiastic applause from the audience brought the atmosphere to a climax.

This year’s gala also marked the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. More than just a celebration of Asia-Africa cultural convergence, the event underscored China’s ongoing commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties and building a community with a shared future with Asian and African nations in the new era.
